SwirlyyyyVR

SwiryyyyVR is the VR version of Swirlyyy, a music running game for Gear VR. The Player is a sprite in a mystery, infinite tunnel, who is supposed to hit the ring and fit the beats of music. The player will tilt his or her head to the left and right to rotate the avatar through the tunnel so that the avatar can hit the ring placing at different spots in the tunnel.

This version is completely developed by myself. First, I changed the original double-player version to a simple version. Then, make it run on Gear VR. Then I recognized the manipulation should be changed. There is only one action that players can take in the game - move left or right. And I want the manipulation can be combined with VR. In other words, players don't need to use another output device except for Gear VR. So I think tilting head to the left or right side will be not only great  to link movement with view changing and funny to play. There is a time I don't know how to detect the rotation of the headset, so I use a gravity sensor on the phone to detect head tilting and it works.

When I showed the game to my friends and at the VR Jubilee. I saw players enjoy the game and especially the experience tilting their head to play it. In my opinion, there remain huge potentials for designing the interactive experience for VR games that wait for designers to explore.
